Do you accept insurance?
In the interest of providing highest quality care possible, Dr. Serino is out of network with all insurance companies. This means payment is required at the time services are rendered for both therapy and evaluations. I can provide you with a superbill for you to submit for potential reimbursement with your insurance company. You can be given a sample invoice to inquire about reimbursement before we begin our work together.
Also know, Dr. Serino is a provider for Lyra and Modern Health. If your employer offers sessions through either Lyra or Modern Health, you may be able to work with her using your employer-sponsored benefits. Dr. Clark accepts select Aetna plans. Please contact us for more information.
What is a neuropsychological evaluation?
It is an in-depth assessment of cognitive and academic skills as well as socio-emotional functioning. While a thorough evaluation is typically warranted, we frequently opt for focused assessments which are designed to efficiently assess cognitive strengths and weaknesses, including those associated with Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (AD/HD), 2-E/twice exceptionality, learning challenges associated with processing differences, including language-based and non-verbal learning disorders, and dysgraphia.
We will screen you thoroughly before we begin the evaluation process to determine which approach best suits your needs.
Why are neuropsych evaluations so costly?
Neuropsychological evaluations may seem expensive; though you may not be aware of the time involved in completing an evaluation from start to finish. The following is a breakdown of what is involved in a standard, full-fee evaluation:
Intake (60-90 minutes)
Review of Records; contacting collaterals as needed (therapists, psychiatrists, teachers, etc.) (2-4 hours)
One-on-one testing (4-10 hours)
Scoring assessments (2-4 hours)
Feedback session (1.5 hours)
Report writing (4-8+ hours)
In addition, following your evaluation, we are available to write letters of support, appeals to the College Board, or to speak with collateral contacts such as admissions directors and IEP committees as needed. This service is included in the evaluation fee. If you break down the fee per hour, the cost is comparable to that of therapy hours. While it may still seem high, keep in mind that you are paying for a service with someone with expertise in the area of neuropsychology. This expertise and training is important to ensure clarity in diagnosis and appropriate treatment recommendations.
What is neurodiversity exactly?
Neurodiversity includes differences in how we learn, process information, socialize, regulate mood, and physically coordinate our bodies.
What is neurodiverse city’s mission?
We specialize in neurodiversity affirming care and assessments from pre-adolescence to adulthood in and around New York City. Our goal is to promote acceptance through accommodations rather than reducing neurodivergent traits. We aim to embrace diversity, we want our clients to "drop the mask!" In some cases, this means breaking down the socially reinforced masks neurodiverse folks have been forced to adopt and fit in, and instead, encouraging them to discover and embrace their true selves. We are here to say neurodivergence is not inherently pathological.. rather, society has been giving implicit messages that it is.
What types of therapy do you offer?
We strive to tailor our approach to the patient’s particular set of needs. Depending on your presenting issue(s) and our experience working with similar patients, we will flexibly employ the evidence based methods that we know to be most effective. We tend to infuse some combination of psychodynamic psychotherapy, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) principles in session. We will discuss what your particular therapy will look like in our initial consultation call or during our initial intake/consultation session.
How will I know if we are a good fit?
We offer free 15-20 minute phone consultations so you can hear more about our approach and how we work. You can schedule a call with Dr. Serino here and with Dr. Clark here.
Which evaluations do you offer?
We offer many different evaluation types. A preliminary call will help us best determine your particular needs. Generally speaking, we offer evaluations for neurodiverse individuals, such as those with or questioning Attention-Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (AD/HD), learning disorders, Complex Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (CPTSD), Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), AuDHD (Autism/ADHD), etc. We also offer standardized testing evaluations (i.e., BAR, LSATs, GREs, SATs, ACTs, MCATs, etc) for those with a history of testing accomodations, or those who are having difficulty completing practice tests in standard time and suspect that they may have underlying cognitive, learning and/or socio-emotional challenges that are negatively impacting their test-taking. Finally, we offer psychological evaluations to gain a deeper understanding of one’s emotional and personality functioning, for those who question diagnoses such as Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD), Obsessive Compulsive Disorder (OCD), Posttraumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) or Complex-PTSD.
